Other Legal Questions
There are many legal issues that can arise requiring an attorney, such as immigration, maritime and admiralty problems, defamation, and lemon law enforcement.
Maritime and admiralty law involves accidents that occur at sea. Under the Jones Act, crew members are entitled to a safe working environment and employers can be required to provide compensation for accidents at sea or at hotels where the crew is staying. Maritime law also covers accidents on cruise ships to passengers. Maritime personal injury law is brought under a duty of care or strict liability theory depending on the circumstances of the case.
Defamation law involves a civil action that is brought when the claimant alleges that the defendant made false statements that he did not have a right to say which harmed the claimants reputation when they were heard or read by third parties. Libel is generally considered more serious than slander. Most states have lemon laws that entitle consumers to get replacements if they have a vehicle, which has not been repaired after numerous attempts. Sometimes it may be necessary to have an attorney to enforce lemon law rights and reduce the frustration and inconvenience of having a vehicle that is faulty.
