Child custody

My 11 year old son had been living with me for the past 4 years, this year he wanted to try living with his mother and was told by her if he did not like it he could return home to me. He just informed his mother he wanted to return home to me, she replied to him he has to stay with her until he is 18. What can I do, just go pick him up and bring him home? I want to do this legally, thanks.

When we divorced in 2003 it was joint custody, we let the kids decide where they wanted to live, my two older kids lived with me as well. She told him he could come back home if he did not like it with her, I have a wittness that was there when she stated that as well, she now is telling him he has to stay with her untill 18 after he told her he wants to come back home.

Were you ever given a joint custody order by the court (any paperwork to that affect)? I would recommend requesting a modification of the custody order/agreement and requesting sole custody based on the best interests of the child (child's own request to live with you)
