A local high school is locking the only gate for students to park by the time the first tardy bell rings.
Students often turn around and leave. Noone monitored which students left school and noone notified parents. As of Friday a new procedure was created by the school official stating students facing the locked gated must find alternative parking, go to the school office, get tardy slip, locate the security officer to go back to the parking lot to open the gate, go back to where the car is parked, drive back to the now open parking lot and then go to class. The answer from school officials about students who do not follow this procedure and leave is this: outside the gate is not school property, the students choose to leave, the school is not responsible for notifying parents,nor is the school responsible legally if something negative happens to that student while he is gone from school. Can a school lock a child off campu?
